Doctor of Medical Science (Online)
The online Doctor of Medical Science program at CBU will enhance the clinical, professional and research skills of working PAs. Students will complete a doctoral project based on their professional interests.
Program Intro
Students in CBU's online Doctor of Medical Science program will complete 38 units of coursework over a 1-year or 2-year plan based on what best fits their schedule. Courses are taught by full-time CBU faculty members from the PA Studies Department as well as adjunct instructors who are also healthcare practitioners.
Mission Statement
CBU’s Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) program’s mission is to further the healing ministry of Christ by equipping physician assistants to be thoughtful leaders and lifelong learners of scientific and practical knowledge to improve the health, quality of life, and education of communities. The DMSc program will provide the highest doctoral level practitioner-based medical science education in support of the University’s mission to prepare graduates who are globally minded, academically prepared, equipped to serve, and biblically rooted.

What You'll Learn
Students in CBU's Doctor of Medical Science program will learn to:
- SLO 1: Medicine. Examine and implement advanced scientific strategies of evidence-based medicine, holistic medical care, and technical skills in healthcare delivery of evaluation, diagnosis, dignity, and treatment of patients. (USO-3, 4, 5)
- SLO 2: Professionalism. Demonstrates the highest standards of professionalism in relation to critical thinking, legal and ethical issues, empathy, cultural sensitivity, and spiritual integration as it relates to medical practice. (USO-1, 2, 6)
- SLO 3: Research. Evaluate, conduct, and apply scholarly medical research that meaningfully contributes to the field of medicine and honors human life. (USO-3, 4, 5)
- SLO 4: Leadership. Critically analyze leadership theories and demonstrate research-based best practices to effectively collaborate and lead diverse teams in serving healthcare communities and improving patient care loca! lly and globally. (USO-3, 5)
- SLO 5: Clinical Skills. Assess and facilitate clinical competency, professionalism, and acquisition of advanced clinical skills in relation to leadership and whole-person patient care. (USO-3, 4, 5)
Program Details
PAS 710: US Healthcare Delivery
This course will explore how US Healthcare system has evolved and how the US confronts emerging issues in healthcare.
PAS 730: Evidence Based Medicine
This course provides doctorate students with a foundation for accessing, assessing, and utilizing evidence-based medicine in their research, scholarly work, and workplace in medicine.
PAS 750: Advanced Clinical Medicine I
This course is in a series designed to provide intensive professional exposure in chosen clinical specialties to further the student's clinical medicine proficiency and professional competencies.

The Doctor of Medical Science prepares working PAs to take leadership roles in the healthcare industry and in academia settings.
- PAs are healthcare practitioners who can specialize in various types of medicine such as family practice, behavioral health, orthopedics, emergency medicine, and more. PAs do not need to remain in one specialty for an entire career and have the flexibility to change specialty and delivery method as interests and conditions change.
- PA faculty members teach courses and perform administrative functions such as course building, hiring specialists, program assessment, establishing clinical sites, setting clinical rotation schedules, advising students, and more.
